Dreams of melting crayons

March 24th, 2009 § 6 Comments

I saw this clever idea for making stubby broken crayons more useful on Fiona’s gorgeous blog ages ago. And made a mental note to try it out with my little chickens when they were old enough to appreciate the ‘Wow’ factor.

Well that day was today. And the melty crayons were a huge success! The anticipation was overwhelming. First the cooking, fueled by the ever-ticking oven timer,… the cooling, which obviously took an eternity… then the big spectacular reveal… only to then lay them out for photography. Oh! The agony they must have felt.

UH AHH! NOT YET! … click!
NEARLY FINISHED … click click!

Lots of fun and oh so satisfying. One might say even yummy, ahem… but not around the children! Oh, if you like the idea of these you might also love these. What a cool gift… Of course, I mean for the kids.

  • How fantastic! Love the colours – can’t wait to try this when my babe is a bigger babe.

I couldn’t believe how super easy they were to make, just a very low oven temp and that’s pretty much it. I have to admit I watched them like a hawk but that was mostly because I couldn’t wait to see how they turned out.

I saw this crayon idea recently too (probably through a link from you!!) and was planning to also have a go… I know my wee ones will be chuffed. Did a doll-making workshop last night which was amazing!! The result was just gorgeous… give me some colour hints and maybe two maybe heading your way. The new drawings are gorgeous by the way, I am sure requests to colour them in will be forthcoming. xx
