Yellow bike, yellow socks.

Just a quick sketch to show the hither and thither path inspiration often takes (with me that is). I should be busy working on other things and yet all I can think about are regular folks and their beloved bicycles.
Wistfully I watch as lucky strangers glide by on gleaming bicycles in every juicy colour imaginable. But it’s not just the bike that has me sighing, it’s the whole imagined lifestyle that comes with it. The dream of living in a beautiful, relatively flat, village where I can cycle everywhere (sorry San Fran). A place that hasn’t been hijacked by car, bus, truck and airplane pollution.
Imagine being able to actually hear someone whistle as they work, to see little ones happily nestled into rickshaws and to smell the first spring flowers rather than fumes on the breeze. And how great to get to wear socks that perfectly match your bicycle. Mmm, that’s the life for me.
Thanks so much guys. Hmm, think you may be right Catania, southern Germany would be fab, or Copenhagen.
I have been spending way too much time at the Copenhagen Cycle Chic blog, and dreaming. Mark and I spent four beautiful sunny days there and it is perfect for bikes.
I bet the locals would tell me we were lucky with the weather but I’m sure I’d prefer the cold over the boiling hot Australian or Arizona summer.

I love the sketch. As much as I love to draw, I can’t draw the way you do – it’s a secret wish of mine, though…
and you also hit on another secret wish I have – to be able to go carless – and have only a bike.
I spent about 2 weeks in Germany a few years ago, and was openly jealous about how bike paths were found everywhere – with people riding on them. I loved how some of the people had bikes with large baskets on front and back – for their groceries. and if you needed to go anywhere that was too far to bike, then you only needed to bike to the nearest train station.
Unfortunately, I live in Arizona…no trains…and it is SO HOT in the summer, so I pack up in the car – dreaming of relocating in southern Germany.
Thanks for the post!

now i’m wistfully wishing…
lovely.
Gorgeous. I’d love to have matching socks and bike!
What a wonderful, evocative sketch. You’re a real talent.
I know what you mean about people meandering on bicycles. But I’m one of the blessed ones now – our family has gone car-free and we’re loving the biking life. Admittedly, we live in a slightly flatter part of the world… http://clutterpunk.blogspot.com/2009/04/introducing-hudson.html
