Cravings

Oh boy, do I remember those pregnancy cravings well. Mine were for citrus ~ oranges, tangellos, and grapefruit. I ate an obscene number for six months straight. Never underestimate the power of hormones. So lets just say this week’s Illustration Friday theme was one I know well, CRAVE.
And now, I am seriously craving a sloth-like beach holiday somewhere where there is absolutely nothing to do but swim, doze, have aromatherapy massages and eat juicy fruit… ahhh SEE, it does all come back to oranges!

I love this one – I can’t believe you had a citrus craving I had exactly the same – at one stage it got so bad that I squeezed a lemon over a toasted cheese sandwich and loved it – how funny is that!!!
I love your artwork, beautiful! I too had cravings for citrus. I had to have it in the morning before going to work, it also helped with the morning sickness I think. We must have needed some vitamin C.
Gorgeous, gorgeous illustration – love your inky texture work! What a fantastically talented illustrator you are – we should collaborate on an arty zine one day soon
Thanks for dropping by Shelbyville.
Cheers,
Michelle
Thanks so much guys for all the warm comments. I’m tickled that you like the illustration and the subject matter. And it’s always great to hear about other pregnancy experiences. Pregnancy is such a surreal experience after all. x Alisa
Great illustration, I love the orange peel effect!
Thanks for providing the link to illustration Friday. I signed up and can hardly wait to begin!
That is highly amusing. I love how you used the orange stamping from the previous post to colour in the orange with orange… does that mean this picture now smells of orange?
How many oranges did I just type? Must be on the brain now, thanks to your post haha.

Hello! Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving kind comments – much appreciated, thanks!
I’ve just enjoyed browsing through your wonderful posts…I had noticed your hair/nest pic on IF the other week and was really impressed and meant to leave a comment, but then couldn’t find your blog again amongst the other 500+ IF images!
I love that gnarly tree sketch – can imagine that was fun to do?! Also really really liked the geisha pics, and it was great to see all the references etc. And the inky seaweed – yum… and the melty crayons – great stuff! (See, I really did have a good browse!!)
Oh, and just wanted to add – I’m very impressed that you had such healthy pregnancy cravings…to my shame I remember craving white bread, mashed potatoes and all sorts of stodgy comfort foods, and the healthy spinach, broccoli and wholemeal bread my partner kept trying to make me eat just made me feel quite ill…hormones indeed! Still, the twins turned out ok!
Great post to go along with your illustration! I like her wistful expression and the big orange head is so funny!!
Btw – I craved plums when I was pregnant…and peppermint stick ice-cream…but not at the same time!
This is so great, I love it! And by the way, you ought to TRY embroidery. It’s much easier than you might think. I picked it up almost right away. Would love to see what you do with it!
you nailed the expression on her face perfectly, her eyes particularly !! I love it, she looks so far away in citrus land. Brilliant
i’m not even pregnant and now i’m craving your beach holiday and oranges!! helpp!

haha! I like the drawing…and – speaking of pregnancy cravings – I just had a baby, and throughout the pregnancy, all i wanted was steak and shrimp. Despite the hunger for meat, she still came out cute.
