Shaky

I could have taken a more dramatic view of Illustration Friday’s theme for this week, SHAKY. Perhaps I should have delved deeper for a more poignant interpretation. But, in all sincerity, I was in the mood for sketching something light and free. And who can fail to be mesmerised by an Arabian dancers shaking hips. Or the flash and glitter of the costumes, the warm colours, or the air heavy with the smell of aromatic spices.
The whole experience is undeniably intoxicating.

Beautiful line work
She is beautiful. Absolutely love the line work…and great color!

Thanks so much for all the gorgeous comments.
I wish I could say that “yes” the ‘coffee’ swirls were aromatic spices ground by hand and carefully mixed with a rare medium brought across the Hindu Kush on the back of a disgruntled yak…
…but alas the truth is it’s just your regular bog standard ink in a yummy shade of ‘Sengal Yellow’… I’ve got to say I like the first story much better ; )

Wow! This is an awesome illo. Love the line work, the angle, color and draftsmanship.
This is fab Alisa! Love the quality of the line…great movement in the tassles, and those hands are great – such a difficult angle to draw them from too! Also love the swirls behind – someone else mentioned ‘coffee stain’ – I thought mmm…gooey caramel, and felt a bit hungry… Assume they’re clever swishes (is that a word?) of watercolour though? Or did you use real aromatic spices?!
Anyway, it’s lovely!
Wow – This is really great! I love how you interpreted the theme.
Wonderful illo, very nice.
I really like how you combine the black ink lines with the texture & bright colors of the paint! your other pieces look great too!
I certainly have a great first impression of your fabulously creative blog! Such inspiration! Your dancer is so alive!

I love this pic, I particularly love the hips you have given her. Bring on a shapely body any day!! Brilliant!
Whoa – totally love your take on the theme. A lot of people were dramatic, but I like your interpretation – positive instead of in doubt!
Beautifully rendered. I am especially liking the “coffee stain” swirls.
Nothing wrong with light and free
Fantastic linework and colour.
I was feeling a bit blue this morning, this upbeat sketch with its bright vibrant colors really upped my mood. A very great take on a woman who has a sensual occupation. GJ!
