Lightness of being

July 16th, 2009 § 2 Comments

My head has been in the clouds all week, I’m sure I can hear my Dad chuckling. Yes, it’s true, I’ve been day dreaming about balloons. Big, bright, beautiful balloons.

Balloons have always seemed like such a contradiction to me. On one hand, they are wonderfully ethereal, drifting serenely through the clean air above earth’s cluttered and chaotic surface…

…On the other hand, their fragile skins are filled with raging blasts of heat and the fate of the journeys undertaken in them ultimately lie at the mercy of the elements.

They are a fusion of passion and whimsy, an entirely romantic invention that I find endlessly fascinating and when I look at these gorgeous images I know I’m not the only one.

Hiya Helen, I’m so chuffed you liked ‘Drifting’! : )

As far as how I go about it ~ I do the initial drawing in pen or with a brush and ink, then I make a separate background in coloured ink. I scan the elements in and digitally combine/colour them using Photoshop. Photoshop is such a big juicy program I feel like I’m learning new stuff every time I sit down in front of it.

I was so surprised to hear you say you are new to drawing, you seem so comfortable in your style I assumed you’d been doing it forever! x Alisa

Good morning clever lady. I particularly like that “drifting” illustration from last week. How do you create your illustrations? I’m pretty new to drawing stuff and I love your line.

    Have a beautiful day!

What’s this?
