In the jungle you must wait…

October 28th, 2009 § 1 Comment

I’m not prone to exaggeration (ahem!) but as Mark and I sat slumped on the couch after another sleepless night with sick kids, I wondered if we were living in some kind of illness edition of Jumanji.
For the last few months it’s been one earth-shattering stampede after another; asthma, influenza, misadventure, gastroenteritis… etc. etc. Each has turned our lives upside down and left us sitting punch-drunk in the wreckage. It’s true, two children projectile vomiting in unison can be as challenging as rampaging monkeys!

Having said that, the last roll of the dice must have been a good one; the bugs have fled, our flat has been drowned in disinfectant and a major league health-kick is underway. To say I’m relieved is the understatement of the entire millenium …

The amazing works above are by Roy G. Krenkel who primarily worked in the adventure fantasy genre and was no stranger to a healthy serving of melodrama. He was a master of pen and ink with designers sensibilities and a love of pulp fiction, particularly Edgar Rice Burroughs stories. My hero! I have so much respect for pulp artists like Roy, they can really draw; they fully understand anatomy and their medium. I guess in my formative years they played the role of unseen mentor; almost as bizarre as the pulp they illustrated for.

Comiserations, Gastro is the worst! We’ve had it three times this year and I’m sure I never had it before having a little one. I hope you all have good health for long time now.
