Love a bit of tentacle thrashing
Susan, from one of my fav blogs, Art Spark Theatre, has set this fun illustration challenge to any that dare. So I’ve eagerly leapt into the fray. You start with the lovely little lady above, which you download from her site, and basically do what you will with her. Haha!…
I came up with this; an unlikely tale of wild passion in the park. I thought it would be perfect to post it on a Sunday since you never know your luck in the relaxed atmosphere of a weekend. And if you’re lucky you may not have to eat plankton!

Umbrella wrangling in colour
Yay! I finally finished my Windy Day illustration, despite my runny nose. I’m starting to wonder if I manifested the snots myself, out of pure sympathy for these poor umbrella wranglers.
The colours are actually brighter than what they appear here. They always seem to lose a bit of ‘oompf’ when I download them. Compensating for it in Photoshop sometimes works and sometimes doesn’t. Still puzzled about that one.
I couldn’t settle on the final colour scheme, so thought I’d post both options to see which all you fab people out there prefer. I’d really love to know, then maybe I can stop noticing (or obsessing over) these colour schemes absolutely everywhere I go. Funny, I thought I only did that with shoes.
Edited to add : I have reloaded the two full size images and left the detail as it was so you get some idea of the colour difference between them. It turns out that merely checking that the document was switched from CMYK to RGB mode in Photoshop was a big part of the muddy colour issue. Apparently the umbrella peeps aren’t the only ones doing some wrangling.

A wicked wind
This is as far as I’ve managed to get on my illustration for this weeks Illustration Friday theme, STRONG. I must admit it feels kinda strange posting a pencil drawing rather than a full colour image. But there was a lot of work in this one, with all those wind tousled tresses; not for the faint hearted that’s for sure! Anyway I hope to finish it off this weekend, fingers crossed.

Apron strings
I don’t believe it! It’s Friday already!!
Seems like it’s always down to the wire for me.
This illustration, like oh so many before it, will be on Illustration Friday for exactly …
‘UH OH! Did you blink?’ seconds.
Anyhoo, this one’s for the topic, CAUTION.
… Obviously not something displayed by me, ie someone way too tired to be attempting humour. Best I write a little more about it tomorrow.
Yep, tomorrow or maybe Sunday… yawn…
Nighty night.

Spring wish redux

So here is the illustration as it stands after my second third attack.
I’ve jucied up the contrast, highlighted the flower a little more and added some more detail between her arms after worrying that everyone would think she was actually standing waist-deep in snow rather than kneeling in it.
And Yay, we’re done, fingers crossed.
Hope you’re having a fabulously lazy weekend. Oooh, doesn’t that sound good!

Spring wish
So this is where I’m at on my pic for the Illustration Friday theme, IMPATIENCE.
But I’m not sure that I’m entirely happy with it. When I loaded it up, the wonders of technology seem to have lost me bucket loads of contrast, hmmm…
I really liked this theme because it immediately reminded me of how I feel in the middle of a sweltering Australian summer. Hot and fed up! And waiting impatiently for the change of season. I think it happens to everyone in the extreme seasons; it’s only the intensity that changes from a little wistful to flat-out climbing the walls. This image belongs to the former and not the dramatic (and possibly more apt) later.
Credit: This wonderful image by Zara was my reference for the figure (license details here). I kept quite true to it because for me it nails the emotion of wistfulness beautifully. Do check out Zara’s Flickr stream, she is one uber talented gal.

The net
I came up with this for Illustration Friday’s theme MODIFY.
Will write more about it tomorrow Sunday and show some work in progress bits and pieces. It’s way past my bedtime, so bonsoir … zzzzzz!

Feeling the Passion
I sketched this for Illustration Friday’s theme TANGO…
And I’m hoping like crazy that I’ve managed to side step at least some of the cliche. Although I’m wondering if that can only be done by the nimble feet of the worlds greatest dancers. This subject is truly loaded in cliche!
But the drama and passion inherent in Tango is hard to resist. So I borrowed a little from the fight aspect and a little from the dance, and had fun ripping up the flowers.

Hollow
Inspired by all the gorgeous balloon images in the previous post, this is my submission for the Illustration Friday theme HOLLOW
… such a gentle way to spend a sunny afternoon.
Hope your weekend is wonderful. x

Shaky
I could, and perhaps I should, have taken a more dramatic view of Illustration Friday’s theme for this week, SHAKY.
Perhaps I should have delved deeper for a more poignant interpretation. But, in all sincerity, I was in the mood for sketching something light and free. And who can fail to be mesmerised by an Arabic dancers shaking hips. Or the flash and glitter of the costumes, the warm colours, or the air heavy with the smell of aromatic spices.
The whole experience is undeniably intoxicating.
